  1. In a bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, tomato paste, worcestershire sauce, ground mustard, onion powder, pepper and salt.
  2. Form 4 equally-sized 1/2 inch thick patties and add them to a skillet.
  3. Brown the patties, about 3-4 minutes on each side then remove from the skillet.
  4. Add the onions to the skillet and cook until they are translucent.  Next, add the mushrooms and cook until they are softened.
  5. Stir in the thyme, garlic powder, cornstarch and beef broth. Scrape the bottom of the pan to loosen the brown bits. Add the worcestershire sauce and bring the mixture to a boil. When the gravy thickens, turn the heat down and stir in the butter. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
  6. Add the beef patties back to the skillet and cook until they are completely cooked, about 10 minutes.
  7. Sprinkle with parsley and eat!

Let’s talk money:

The ground beef was from Walmart – $2.96

The panko breadcrumbs came from the 99 – 12¢

The tomato paste was from the 99 as well – 20¢

The Mustard also came from the 99 – 10¢

The Worcestershire Sauce – 20¢

The Onion Powder also came from the 99 – 5¢

I used half of a packet of diced onions from the 99 – 50¢

White Mushrooms were also from the 99- 99¢

The Cornstarch was from the 99 as well – 10¢

I bought the Beef Broth at the 99 too – 1.50

Butter was from the 99 – 5¢

I didn’t include the thyme or garlic powder in the tally, the amounts are so small and they are staples.  This recipe feeds four people. So the overall price of this recipe is: $6.77, which adds up to $1.69 per serving.  Good deal!

As always, try it out and let me know what you think!
